Empowering Teachers with AI in Education Sector

When Computers came into our lives in 1980s it was a technological revolution. People were so excited. It becomes a status symbol. If you won a computer and know how to use it you are considered very educated and respected in the society. Computer literacy becomes top priority amongst other educational qualification. Persons having computer knowledge were having added advantage in their career growth. Computer education centers mushroomed in every nook and corner as there was a big upskilling requirement that led to this boom. Word star Lotus-123 were the most sort after softwares to use for documentation and tabulations. Computer languages like Basic, Cobol, Pascal were much in demand. Soon people were nervous about loosing their jobs as it was seen as replacement of manpower.

But with the upskilling of computer became useful tools to the job economy as essential skillsets to generate and boost employment opportunities. Companies and institutions start adopting this technology to their advantages and improved their profitability.

It is imperative to explore how we can prepare ourselves for the next technological revolution and explosive change now. Artificial Intelligence(AI) is everywhere and is an essential skill that our educational system, school system, classrooms need to respond to.

Some great changes has been initiated by the government in the right direction as CBSE has already introduced AI as a subject for class IX and X and as an elective for class XI and XII, however the desired scale of impact and outcome may not be achieved unless it is seamlessly integrated into classrooms more inclusively and upskill teachers.

Having said that we must also proactively empower our teachers by making them understand what positive changes AI could bring in to their profession and how IT would enhance their efficiency and capabilities. What and how Artificial Intelligence (AI) could be the potential to significantly impact teacher preparation for the future in several ways like Personalized Professional Development, Data Analysis and Insights, Virtual Teaching Assistants, Lesson Planning and Resource Recommendations, Classroom Management and Behavior Analysis, Assessment and Feedback, Mentorship and Collaboration.

For students to be able to undertake assignments and projects on AI, we need to first trained and equip all our teachers at all level. They need to be able to mentor the students and make them understand by answering their queries in using AI tools. Let us use this latest technology wave as an opportunity to completely change our education system and empower our teachers as they are the first creator of our nation builders and to be at the forefront of the AI revolution.
