Importance of Class 12 CBSE Board Exam

CBSE curriculum is important to prepare for the CUET as well as othe entrance exams.

Based on the comparison of pass percentage of last year and this year 2023 there is a significant drop of 5.4% (21,959). The overall pass percentage is 87.33%. that is 1,12838 students have scored 90% or above in comparison to 1,34,797

By seeing this some academicians says the due to the introduction of CUET for admission to UG courses has reduced the importance and relevance of class 12th Board exam.

But some academicians says it due to the learning gaps generated by the pandemic.

CBSE says the comparison is not correct as the standard condition of the examination were different, in other words, if we look into the examination(criteria) patterns of last five years which is totally different from each other.

In 2019 and earlier and in 2023, normal examination held

In 2020 half the examination held and result declared by using tabulation policy

In 2021 no examination held due to pandemic and result were declared based on school assessment with tabulation policy

In 2022 two exams were conducted Tern-I is objective and Term-II subjective.

We must not also forget that the 2023 appeared class 12th is the same batch who had no exam in their class 10 due to pandemic.

So students were completely out of touch with pattern of written examination. When the regular classes were resumed last year the academic gaps were visible with reluctance to write answers is the main culprit of this year’s dip in passing percentage.

According to some academic experts, since the CUET follows CBSE syllabus an average student who has scored 50-60% in board exam can easily revisit his weak areas and increase his chances to get into his desired college.

Science students appearing several entrance examinations do not feel that the board exam is becoming redundant. According to some experts if they are thorough with the class 12th syllabus they can get good score in their board exam as well as clear the CUET easily.

But some experts are of the opinion that since there is no weightage of class 12 board result in the CUET the board exam will lose its importance as students will be confused whether to focus for board exam or prepare for CUET. According to them the CUET must give some weightage to the Board exam marks. This will help in striking a balance.
